One arrested in Golaghat firing case at Habial Gaon

GOLAGHAT: Golaghat Police on Monday night arrested one Rohini Kumar Gogoi for his alleged involvement in a firing incident that took place at Habial Gaon outside the residence of Congress Gaon Panchayat president Rupa Rajkhowa. Rohini Kumar Gogoi was arrested after the forensic report of his licensed pistol, which was seized by the police, came positive. After producing him before the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) in Golaghat, the police took him in remand for two days.

In this context, the Superintendent of Police, Puspa Raj Singh said that on January 2 at 9.30 PM, information was received that firing had taken place outside the residence of Pranjal Rajkhowa and Rupa Rajkhowa in the Ganakpukhuri area. After initial investigation, it came to light that some miscreants had come in a Mahindra Thar and fired at the residence of the Rajkhowas.

“We seized seven rounds of fired cartridges from the incident spot. Later, we received some clue about the vehicle and identified it. Ruhini Kumar Gogoi was arrested for alleged involvement in the firing incident and interrogating is on,” said the SP.

The police have registered a case (No 07/2020) under sections 307 of the Indian Penal Code, read with 25 (1)(A) and 27 of the Arms Act. In the same incident, a Maruti van, owned by one Binay Baruah, was also damaged. The Rajkhowa couple and Baruah had taken the lead in organizing an anti-Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) agitation at Ganakpukhuri.
