One beaten over witchcraft suspicion, 3 arrested in Sonitpur district

TEZPUR: In a shocking incident of witch-hunting, one person identified as Sakradhar Swargiary (60) was brutally beaten by locals in the name of witchcraft in the Oujuli Rongagora village under Chariduar Police station in Sonitpur district on Friday night. The incident has created a tensed situation in the Rongagora area.

The northern belt of Sonitpur district, starting from Dhekiajuli, Rangapara, Chariduar to Jamuguri area has till date witnessed many incidents of witch hunting and the consequent harassment upon many innocent people. Pradip Rajkhowa, OC Chariduar said that 3 persons were arrested in this connection. They have been identified as Sunil Doimari, Maheswar Basumatary and Pradip Khaklary.
