The person infected by the fatal virus has been identified as Babu Ali (18) who lived in a rented house at Abdul Letif Baruah Road, Ward No. 11 in North Lakhimpur town along with his parents and an aunt. He was one of the attendees of the Tablighi Jamaat of Nizamuddin Markaz in New Delhi.

His swab sample was sent to the Regional Viral Research and Diagnostic Laboratory, ICMR, RMRC, Lahowal of Dibrugarh district for COVID-19 test on Friday and the report came positive for novel coronavirus on Saturday. As per report found, Babu Ali went to New Delhi to attend the Tablighi Jamaat on March 17. Then he came back from there on March 19 and reached Harmoti railway station of Lakhimpur district in the morning on March 22. Thereafter, he arrived at his rented house by hiring a tempo from Harmoti station. Since then he had been roaming in various places of North Lakhimpur town till April 1. Unfortunately, he kept all the information of his travel to New Delhi concealed in front of the ASHA workers and later he revealed it only in front of the Lakhimpur Police. He was taken to North Lakhimpur Civil Hospital on April 2 and admitted in mass quarantine facility on the same day. He has now been shifted to Telahi Model Hospital where due arrangement has already been made by the District Health Services Department in order to treat the COVID-19 patients of the district. His parents and the aunt have also been kept in mass quarantine facility in the same hospital.

However, Babu Ali gave self-contradictory statements regarding his travel history to New Delhi in front of the Health Department officials and medical teams. His mother admitted that he left home to attend the jamaat in the later part of January.
