One dead, three critical after consuming spirit with cold drink in Jorhat

JORHAT: One person died and three are in a serious condition after consuming spirit (thinner) with cold drinks in Tarajan area under Jorhat Police Station, said police sources.

The deceased has been identified as Sube Rajak (39), a plumber, while three others are Vicky Rajak, Manoj Rajak and Jitrendra Rajak. All four are from the same family. They consumed spirit mixed with cold drinks on Sunday night. The deceased became unwell and was admitted in JMCH. He passed away on Monday night while the other three are battling for life in two different private hospitals in Jorhat, said police.

Investigation is on to find out from where they purchased the spirit and cold drinks during the lockdown. Police have picked up three persons from the area near Tarajan crematorium where mostly daily wage workers live, said Naba Kumar Bora, the in-charge of Jorhat Police Station.
