One die, another hurt in road mishap at Bhella in Barpeta District

BARPETA: One person died while another was seriously injured in a road mishap at Bhella in Barpeta District on Wednesday afternoon. The deceased has been identified as Utpal Medhi (30 years of age) of Budarutup, Barpeta; while the injured person is Harkumar Das. The accident occured when the duo was proceeding towards Bhella from Barpeta on a Scooty (AS-15, F-7870). The accident happened when the scooty collided head on with a car. However, the driver of the car sped away the vehicle after the accident. Seriously injured Harkumar Das was taken for treatment to Guwahati.

POLYTHENE OR PLASTIC BAGS TO BE BANNED: Barpeta Deputy Commissioner Tej Prasad Bhushal, on Wednesday, had a meeting with the businessmen of Barpeta and suggested they should stop using polythene bags for packing various goods and items. The businessmen have been directed to do so till August 10. The DC pointed out that the the district administration will ban the use of polythene bags in the market very soon. He also said that the decision has been taken as the use of plastics have harmful effects in the in our daily life. He also suggested that the public should be encouraged to use jute bags or cloth bag for marketing. The shopkeepers can use paper instead of plastic, he added. If anyone breaks this order, he or she will be punished by law. This information will be announced by the DIPRO of Barpeta district.
