One drowns to death in Mitong River, Gaurisagar

GAURISAGAR: Hemonta (Bhai) Robi Das, son of Premo Robi Das, resident of Gaurisagar Phukan Phadia Mitong par under Gaurisagar police station in Sivasagar, drowned in the Mitong River on Wednesday morning.

Hemonta, a 26-year old labourer, had gone to the river near his house to take a bath. When he did not return after an hour, his wife searched for him. His friends and neighbours jumped into the river to look for him and at last recovered his body.

Gaurisagar Police led by OC Jyotishman Neog rushed to the spot and sent the body to Sibsagar Civil Hospital for post-mortem. He is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter. Local people have requested the Sivasagar district administration to extend assistance to the poor family.
