One more containment zone declared in Chirang

KOKRAJHAR: The Deputy Commissioner and chairman, District Disaster Management Authority, Chirang, Gautam Talukdar on Sunday declared the premises of Chirang Logistic Cold Store situated at village Palashbari under Sidli police station and its adjacent areas as containment zone after one employee of that establishment tested COVID-19 positive.

A 45-year old man named Badan Sarma, who had been working as caretaker in Chirang Logistic Cold Store since long, tested positive on Sunday. He was shifted to the isolation ward of JSB Civil Hospital.

The notified zone is surrounded by residence of Pranjal Narzary to the north, National Highway 31(C) to the South, residence of Guar Goyary to the east and residence of Lt. Bishnu Brahma to the west.

The order stated that it was issued in the interest of maintenance of public hygiene and to prevent further spread of COVID-19 pandemic in the area under Assam COVID-19 Regulations, 2020. Meanwhile, the area was sealed off and barricades were put up by the Circle Officer, Sidli Revenue Circle, as instructed in the order, besides prohibiting any unauthorized entry and exit of individuals, including movement of vehicles, into this notified zone till it is declared safe.

With this, the district has now got two active containment zones - the official residence area of the Deputy Commissioner and Chirang Logistic Cold Store area.

People living in these zones are surveyed on a daily basis for COVID-19 related symptoms. When any symptoms are reported by the health workers, a medical team is rushed to the spot to verify them.

Till Monday evening, the number of COVID-19 positive cases in Chirang district was 71, including one new positive case recorded within 24 hours. Of these, 33 patients have already been discharged from the designated hospitals after they recovered. So the number of active cases is 38.
