NAGAON: Sirajjul Haque (56), an employee of Sericulture Department, Government of Assam and a resident of Juria Dagaon village was trampled to death this morning by a wild elephant.

Sources claimed that the elephant came in search of food from Lawkhuwa Reserve Forest and was waiting nearby his residence. When he opened his door early this morning, he unfortunately confronted with the elephant and the jumbo immediately attacked him. As a result, the employee died on spot. Significantly, the victim was being engaged in a sericulture firm situated at Dagaon.

Meanwhile, a large herd of wild elephants created panic among the villagers at Langjap under Kampur forest range and also demolished residential houses in the area, sources said adding that luckily no casualty was reported in this regard.

The forest personnel from Kampur range office rushed to the spot and was trying to send back the herd towards the dense forest. It is pertinent to mention that although a slew of voluntary organizations including Hatibandhu is dedicatedly engaged to mitigate the ongoing rise of conflict between man and elephants across the district for over a couple of years, yet the issue is still beyond the control.
