Earlier, in the international news, footage of a wildfire that went viral on social media looked like a scene from an end-of-the-world movie depicting bright orange flames jumping out of water resembling molten lava.

According to reports, the viral video is from a fire that broke out in the southern waters of the Gulf of Mexico on Friday after an underwater pipeline leaked, literally setting the "ocean on fire".

Pemex officials familiar with the matter told Reuters that the fire began in the underwater pipeline which connects to a platform at the firm's flagship 'Ku Maloob Zaap' oil development.

This flagship is situated just up from the Gulf of Mexico's southern rim. Meanwhile, as authorities were alerted, three boats were seen in action putting out the flames
