GUWAHATI: Debashis Sarma the Commissioner of GMC (Guwahati Municipal Corporation) informed that under the corporation now only 11 areas across the city are specifically designated for parking purposes.
Before this new decision by the Guwahati Municipal Corporation, there were a total of 52 areas in Guwahati designated for parking vehicles.
The Commissioner informed that from now onwards only GMC will be performing all the operations in the parking areas. It is strictly mentioned that the amount for parking is allowed to be collected from the designated places under GMC only.
The GMC Commissioner stated if any person is found collecting the parking fees from any other places in the city apart from designated ones then it will be declared as illegally collected money.
On Wednesday 19 January two individuals were detained by police for collecting money from people illegally on parking vehicles in other areas.
The Commissioner urged the people of the city to get aware of the matter and requested not to pay parking fees to anyone on parking vehicles in other areas and not in designated areas.
The GMC also informed the amount that needs to be paid on parking as per the timings. For the two-wheelers, the public must pay Rupees 5 for the initial 2 hours and after the vehicle is parked for 2 hours then they will have to pay Rupees 5 each hour. The process remains the same in the case of four-wheelers but the amount is Rupees 10.
Commissioner Sarma further said that people deployed in the parking zone will be wearing uniforms from now onwards which will be provided by GMC. He said that case if anyone is found collecting money illegally in the name of parking fees they will have to face consequences like imprisonment.

4. R.P. Road, B.K Tower
5. H.B. Road, Khubchand
6. Bhagagarh Flyover
7. Ganeshguri Flyover
8. Adabari Bus Terminal
9. Fancy Bazar Basement
10. Lachit Ghat
