LAKHIMPUR: The election scenario of Lakhimpur HPC has heated up gradually as the date for the first phase poll of the general election is drawing nearer. Ruling party BJP has intensified its campaign in order to ensure the victory of BJP nominated and AGP, BPF and Sanmilita Gana Shakti supported candidate Pradan Baruah.

North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) convener Himanta Biswa Sarmah took part in two campaign programmes in Lakhimpur on behalf of Pradan Baruah on Monday in the presence of Lakhimpur MLA Utpal Dutta and Dhemaji MLA Dr. Ranoj Kumar Pegu and other dignitaries of the BJP and alliance parties. During his speech in the campaign programme organized at North Lakhimpur Tyag Kshetra, Himanta Biswa Sarmah urged the people to cast their votes for the BJP in order to keep the pace of development, expedited by Modi’s government, go on for the next five years and for the sake of a secure nation. Further, he added that only BJP government could build an illegal-migrant free Assam.

He highlighted the success of the surgical strikes taken up by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to keep the country secure, along with the welfare schemes taken up by the governments at the Centre and in the State. He said that both the governments had implemented various schemes for the comprehensive development and for the welfare of all sections of people in the society.

Sarma made a scathing attack on the previous Congress governments, former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh. “We are not running our governments like the Congress did in the past. The party had confined the people of Assam in dhoti, lungi and kambal politics. Our government is committed to secure jati, mati and bheti and culture of the State and to build an illegal migrant-free Assam. Taking these objectives in view, our governments are working at present,” he added.

He went on to say that Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi had surrendered before AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal in order to ensure the victory of his son Gaurav Gogoi in Kaliabor HPC. On the other hand, he criticized former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in strong terms for his ‘betrayal’ to the people of Assam regarding developmental issues despite being a representative of the State.

Sarma further highlighted the developmental activities implemented in Lakhimpur district during the term of the BJP government. A total of 185 activists and dignitaries of various political parties and organizations joined the BJP in the event.
