LAKHIMPUR: Centering round the MLA candidature for Dhakuakhana LAC in the forthcoming assembly election, the internal conflict of the Congress party has come to an extreme point. This conflict was exposed on Thursday with the confrontation between the supporters of former cabinet minister Bharat Narah and the supporters of MLA ticket aspirant Kalidas Kaman.

On Thursday, Rajya Sabha MP-cum-Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) vice-president Rani Narah allegedly threw out the Congress activists who had opposed Bharat Narah from a meeting of the party held at Ghilamora LP School. In the meeting, APCC general secretary and in-charge of Lakhimpur District Congress, Abhijit Hazarika was present as observer.

As per report, a group Congress activists entered the meeting hall in order to submit a memorandum to the APCC general secretary supporting Kalidas Kaman as MLA candidate in the ensuing assembly election. Aggrieved at this move, MP Rani Narah attempted to throw out the supporters of Kalidas Kaman. Following the development, the supporters of Bharat and Rani Narah came to an open confrontation with the supporters of Kalidas Kaman, who is the youth leader of the party. Rani Narah allegedly moved forward to assault the supporters of Kalidas Kaman physically. Later, police personnel controlled the situation by arriving at the meeting venue and managed to drive out the supporters of Kalidas Kaman.

Under such circumstances, political observers have opined that the internal conflict will affect the Congress party once again in Dhakuakhana in the ensuing assembly election to be held next year.
