LAKHIMPUR: Following the cancellation of the examination on General Science paper, various organizations took to the streets with massive protest programmes in Lakhimpur district on Monday. Expressing vehement resentment over the issue, the protesting organizations alleged comprehensive failure on the part of Education Minister Dr. Ranoj Pegu and Secondary Education Board of Assam (SEBA) Chairman Ramesh Kumar Jain with regard to smooth conduct of the HSLC examination.

In this connection, the activists of the North Lakhimpur regional committee of the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), led by president Pinku Bordoloi, general secretary Abhijit Burhagohain, burnt the effigies of the Education Minister and SEBA Chairman Ramesh Kumar Jain in North Lakhimpur town. The protesters demanded that the Education Minister and the SEBA Chairman should step down by admitting their moral responsibility of failure regarding the issue. Taking part in the demonstration, AASU Lakhimpur district general secretary Swaraj Sankar Gogoi came down heavily against the Education Minister and the SEBA Chairman over the issue.

Similarly, the activists of the North Lakhimpur regional unit of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP), led by adviser Jyoti Das, president Manas Pratim Saikia, general secretary Bimala Prasad Das, also burnt the effigy of the Education Minister at North Lakhimpur Girls’ HS School Chariali of North Lakhimpur town. The organization alleged that with such incident, conspiracy had been hatched to destroy the SEBA and the Assamese medium academic institutions of the State. AJYCP also demanded the step down of the Education Minister in connection with the issue.

On the other hand, the members of the Asomiya Yuva Mancha (AYM) under the aegis of North Lakhimpur regional unit, burnt the effigies of the Education Minister and the SEBA Chairman on the street in front of the PNGB High School in North Lakhimpur town. As a mark of protest against the issue, AYM Lakhimpur district president Chiranjit Bordoloi and North Lakhimpur regional unit secretary Dipankar Nath conducted tonsure. AYM State secretary Anupam Saikia demanded the Government of Assam to ensure exemplary punishment to all who were involved in question paper leakage incident, suspension of Ramesh Kumar Jain and step down of the Education Minister.
