Orientation programme held on 'Corporate Governance'

TEZPUR: An orientation programme on Corporate Governance under the Companies Act, 2013 & SEBI (LODR) was organized virtually through Google Meet and YouTube by the School of Management Sciences in collaboration with the Institute of Cost Accountants of India as the knowledge partner. The event was supported by the National Foundation for Corporate Governance (NFCG), a PPP under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Government of India. Professor Vinod Kumar Jain, Vice Chancellor of Tezpur University discussed the importance of 'governance' while both in corporate and non-corporate sectors. Dr. M ArizAhammed, Principal Secretary, Department of Public Enterprises, Government of Assam expressed his annoyance over the non-submission of annual accounts by many State Level Public Enterprisers (SLPEs). He wished that audit committee and full-fledged Board of Directors should take place in SLPEs at the earliest. CMA BiswarupBasu, President, The Institute of Cost Accountants of India, CMA Balwinder Singh, Immediate Past President, The Institute of Cost Accountants of India, Raj Kumar More, Director, Torsa Machines and B. Paul Muktieh, Chairman and Managing Director, North Eastern Development Finance Corporation Limited (NEDFi) also shared their views in the inaugural session. A short film on National Foundation for Corporate Governance was shown.

There were four technical sessions on various aspects of corporate governance which were addressed by Vijay Kapur, former Director, Board of Studies, The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, CMA BB Goyal, Former Additional Chief Adviser, Ministry of Finance, Government of India, CMA DebasishMitra, Chairman, Board of Advanced Studies & Research and Members in Industry Committee, The Institute of Cost Accountants of India, CMA Dr. D.P. Nandy, Sr. Director, The Institute of Cost Accountants of India, CMA ChittaranjanChattopadhyay, Chairman, Banking, Financial Services & Insurance Committee and Indirect Taxation,

The Institute of Cost Accountants of India, CS Amitava Banerjee, Visiting Faculty, Tezpur University. The speakers and themes were introduced by Professor ChandanGoswami, Head, Department of Business Administration, Tezpur University and Professor PaporiBaruah, Dean, School of Management Sciences, Tezpur University. The technical sessions were held on the topics viz. Corporate Governance and boards, Financial Literacy for boards, Responsibilities and expectations of members, Risk Management and whistle blower policy. There was a special session on 'Regulator and the changing scenario on Corporate Governance' where Dr. Ramesh Kumar, the Registrar of Companies of North Eastern Region and CS BimanDebnath enlightened the audience with their thoughts. Vote of thanks was delivered by CMA (Dr.) BB Mishra, Finance Officer of Tezpur University. The whole event was coordinated by Professor SubhrangshuSekharSarkar, Professor, Department of Business Administration, Tezpur University. The event was attended by around 4,000 participants comprising of senior officials of SLPEs of Assam, Cost accountants and members of other professional bodies, faculty members and students of management, commerce and law etc.
