Over 1,200 COVID-19 cases detected in Guwahati within a week: Himanta Biswa Sarma

Guwahati: Assam Health and Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today announced that over 1,200 COVID-19 positive cases have been detected in Guwahati city from June 24-30.

"From June 24 to 30, 1,212 patients have surfaced in Guwahati city. If we add the 157 cases that have been detected today, the number is close to 1,400", he said, Sarma also informed that 382 COVID-19 positive cases were detected yesterday alone. "The situation in Guwahati has grown very grim, and for the first time, we saw the increase of as many as 382 COVID cases.

The Minister said that he has been closely monitoring the situation in Guwahati. "Compared to previous times, people have been stricter in observing lockdown, and I am thankful for that", Sarma said.

In June, India has seen a significant bump in the number of COVID-19 cases, with the number rising at a breakneck pace. The country has seen over 5.85 lakh cases till June 30 — this means that over 67% of total cases were registered in the past 30 days.
