Guwahati: The Assam Police has booked over 200 unauthorised petition writers, who used to write petitions and complaints outside the police station in lieu of money.

The said action has been taken over the direction of the Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

While speaking to media in this regard on Sunday, Himanta Biswa Sarma asserted,'' There are people who sits out the police station and files FIRs and police complaints in exchange of money from the poorer section. Today we have arrested as many as 242 people in this regard. I believe that very soon we will be able to destroyed such people from the state.''

As per the police reports, the Kamrup District has the highest number of people arrested for writing such FIRs and police complaints, with 37 arrests, while Goalpara with 13 arrests and Bongaigaon with 12 arrests.

All of them have been charged with filling illegal petitions outside the police station in the state.
