Padmanath Gohain Baruah's 150th birth anniversary celebrations on December 15,16

TEZPUR: Concluding ceremony of the founder president of Axam Xahitya Xabha, Padmanath Gohain Baruah's 150th birth anniversary celebrations will be held on December 15 and 16 here at Ban Theatre.

Xahiya Kandari Padmanath Gohain Baruah, one of the pioneers of Assamese literature, born in 1871 at Nakari village in North Lakhimpur, was a prominent name in the early part of the modern Assamese literary age.

The concluding ceremony is being organized by Tezpur Xahitya Xabha, Ban Theater, Axomiya Bhaxa Unnati Xadhini Xabha, Asomiya Club, Tezpur Lekhika Sanaroh Samitee and Sonitpur Xahitya Xabha. A press meet was held at the office of the Ban Theater on the preparation of the grand celebrations by the organizing committee.

While addressing the media, the reception committee president Dr Bhupen Saikia and joint secretary Jitu Dev Choudhury and Pankaj Baruah stated that the programme on December 15 will mark the Axom Xahitya Xabha flag hoisting by Bashudev Sarma, president of Sonitpur Xahitya Xabha at Tezpur Xahitya Xabha Bhawan Ground followed by Shrdhanjali by Mrinali Chetia, granddaughter of Xahiya Kandari.
