TEZPUR: The first phase of the Panchayat Election 2025 in Sonitpur district was conducted smoothly and peacefully on May 2 with an overall voters’ turnout of 69.88% across 842 polling stations in the district.
According to the data received from various anchalik (regional) panchayats within the district, Dhekiajuli recorded a turnout of 70.37% across 206 polling stations, while Barchalla saw 68.17% across 157 polling stations. Bihaguri registered 67.96% across 104 polling stations, and Balipara witnessed 70.67% across 101 polling stations. Rangapara had the highest turnout of 71.82% at 103 polling stations, followed by Gabharu with 70.53% across 169 polling stations. Sootia, with just two polling stations, recorded a turnout of 65.22%.
Out of the total 6,16,946 eligible voters in the district, 4,31,120 exercised their franchise. Among them, 2,21,917 were women voters, 2,09,201 were male voters, and 2 voters belonged to the third gender category.
District Commissioner Ankur Bharali expressed his gratitude to all stakeholders involved in ensuring the smooth and peaceful conduct of the election. He extended his heartfelt thanks to the voters, polling personnel, security forces, and all supporting agencies who contributed to the successful execution of this important democratic exercise in Sonitpur.
