Panchayat Election: BJP-led alliance retain Nagaon Zila Parishad

NAGAON: The BJP-led alliance secured an impressive victory in the Panchayat Election 2025 in Nagaon district. Among 27 Zila Parishad seats in the district, the BJP-led alliance candidates have been elected unopposed in six seats with five seats by ruling BJP, while the AGP secured one seat without contest.

The BJP candidates who were elected unopposed are Jiten Gaur in Dwar-Bagori, Sunita Ingtipi in Barhampur, Purabi Bordoloi in Jamunamukh, Rambha Loying in Kathiatoli, and Gitanjali Hazarika in Uriagaon. The AGP candidate Punyalata Baruah was elected unopposed in Chatial-Pubthoriya Zila Parishad constituency.

In the remaining 21 Zila Parishad seats where election was held, the BJP-led alliance captured 8 seats. As per the results of the Panchayat polls, the winning candidates from the ruling alliance include Pranjal Das in Kachamari, Swapnali Sangkakati Bora in Bhutai-Pathari, Mintu Sarma in Puranigudam, Arnab Das in Pakhimariya-Jamuguri, Rupjyoti Bordoloi Das in Phulaguri-Barapujia, Jonalim Das Deka in Chaparmukh, Jayasree Mondal in Ambagan (AGP), and Anil Thakur in Dwar-Salna Zila Parishad constituencies.

With these results, the BJP-led alliance secured 14 Zila Parishad seats, as the BJP won in 11 seats while AGP won in three seats.

The Opposition Congress party also performed well in the Panchayat polls this time, with 13 ZPC seats alone in the district. The Congress candidates who won the ballot battle this time in the district include Ibrahim Ali in Singimari, Momtaz Begum in Garajan, Mostan Kenduwai in Bhakatgaon, Momtaz Begum in Bajiagaon, Raihana Rahman Chowdhury in Phakali, Nazma Chowdhury in Juria, Asphia Semim in Alitangani-Dagaon, Muskur Hussain in Maheripar-Borghuli, Nargis Parveen in Amalakhi-Saharia, Khalida Yasmin in Balisatra, Matiur Rahman in Bechamari, Babul Ali in Lahkar, and Abdul Jabbar in Madhabpara Zila Parishad seats respectively.

The ruling BJP-led alliance performed well in the Batadroba, Nagaon, Raha, and Kaliabor constituencies, while the AIUDF could not secure any seats in Zila Parishad despite contesting in several constituencies with significant minority populations. The Raijor Dal also contested one seat but was not able to secure a win.
