GOLAGHAT: After a long lockdown, the government has allowed passenger vehicles to run. In Golaghat district, the people are facing problems in travelling from one place to another due to excess hike in fares.

According to sources, the fares of passenger vehicles like Tata Magic, Ape and tempos have been hiked up to three times the fare before lockdown. The vehicles are now charging Rs. 100 to Rs. 150 instead of the earlier fare of Rs. 20 to Rs. 30. The common people are facing problems travelling due to the hike in fares.

On the other hand, the passenger vehicles have to follow COVID protocol of maintaining social distancing. The vehicles have to carry 4-5 persons at a time in place of the earlier 8-10 passengers. As a result, the owners of these passenger vehicles are facing losses and they have been left with no option but to increase the fares. The people of Golaghat district have appealed to the district administration to take steps in this regard.
