GUWAHATI: On Tuesday 23 November, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed that Assam Police have to complete the process of verification of passport within 30 days.

The Chief Minister made the major announcement while participating in the day-long discussion with top officials of the state held at the headquarters of Assam Police in Guwahati.

Sarma at the meeting on Tuesday mentioned that a major decision was taken along with the high-ranking officials for the quick completion of the process and distribution of various reports also the verification of the passport.

He said that the state government wants to dispose of reports like accident reports, postmortem reports, and the reports for passport verification all on the basis of a time limit. The Chief Minister ordered the Assam police the completion of passport verification within the time of 30 days.

CM also added in his statement that Assam police would begin the process of recruitment of around 6000 posts within the next upcoming week. He further informed that the government wishes to fill around 16,000 posts in the state police by the month of May 2022 but this cannot be done therefore the process of recruiting candidates for 6000 posts including 5 posts for the commando battalion will be soon completed.

The Chief Minister has discussed other important issues throughout his meeting on Tuesday as he talked about the topics that are on the agenda of the Assam government such as expedient public service delivery, improving conviction rate, modernization of the police force in Assam, case disposal, efficient intelligence gathering and responsive and sensitive policing.

CM Sarma concluded by saying that the state police have been asked to follow the instruction of the Supreme court ruling and to register an FIR after the completion of the preliminary investigation within the time period of 24 hours. In the case of the Assam Police accountability commission, the chief minister said that necessary amendments will be done.
