SIPAJHAR: Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal took part in the 71st birthday celebration of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Darrang district on Sunday.

As part of the 'Seva Samarpan Abhiyaan', the Union Minister interacted with booth samiti karyakartas of BJP Assam here. Then, Sarbananda Sonowal visited the memorial of the historic Patharughat uprising — one of India's first peasant uprisings against the British in 1894. The Union Minister offered floral tributes and planted a sapling in memory of the martyr farmers.

Continuing with the Seva Samarpan Abhiyaan, the Union Minister offered prayers at the 450 years old Khatara Satra, a spiritual and cultural centre of Assam and sought blessings for all.

The Union Minister also took part in a Swachhta Abhiyaan at the Satra and later interacted with party karyakartas. On the occasion, the Union Minister felicitated prominent citizens, educationist Santaram Sahariya, yoga teacher Dandapratap Sarma, farmer Dhrubajyoti Saikia and Ojapali artiste Mahendra Nath Sarma. BJP national general secretary Dilip Saikia, Sipajhar MLA Dr Paramananda Rajbongshi and senior functionaries of the party were present on the occasion.
