SILCHAR: There is no sign yet of the declining trend in Covid infected patients in Cachar. Rather, positive cases are on the rise and the tally is further aggravated by air passengers. Though there is drastic fall in their number, every day between 6 to 8 passengers after RT-PCR are testing positive. On Friday, 8 passengers among 190 were found to be positive. New cases counted for 180 which include 82 RT-PCR and 98 RAT on same day as revealed by Suman Choudhury, District Media Expert (Health).

The cumulative figure from April 1 to May 14 as shared by Chowdhury records total 3841 positive and 1241 active cases obtained from SMCH, Civil Hospital, Military Hospital, Dayapore CRPF, Green Hills Pvt Hospital, Cachar Cancer Hospital, Barak Valley Hospital and Gracewell nursing home. 650 infected are in home isolation. Death has mounted to 26. This is no doubt a matter of serious concern. Along with that the district administration of Cachar is sparing no effort to meet the challenge.

Parimal Suklabaidya, Minister of Forest etc, today held a conclave with Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Jalli, IAS, other officials and MLAs of the district in the conference hall of the administrative headquarters of Cachar to review the Covid pandemic and the strategy to combat the situation. At present, there is no shortage of oxygen as 29 more oxygen support beds have been installed in SMCH, informed the Deputy Commissioner. She said oxygen support beds will be increased to 600 soon. All the MLAs have been advised to lay stress on awareness and motivation among people to get vaccinated.

Padmasree Dr Ravi Kannan, director, Cachar Cancer Hospital and Research Centre, said the increasing number of Covid patients is a cause of concern. CCHRC has till now admitted 26 patients for Covid treatment. He attributed crowding in shops, malls and markets, most of them without masks. The congregation that was seen in bazaars during Eid was unfortunate. According to Dr Ravi Kannan, unless people follow the mandated guidelines and get vaccinated, nothing could arrest the alarming Covid rise.
