DOOMDOOMA: "The tea companies, in collusion with the Congress party, filed case to not pay daily wages to tea workers at Rs 217 as fixed by the government. Tea companies must pay the daily wage fixed else they will have to pay Rs 351 as daily wage," said State Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma while addressing a well-attended election rally at Doomdooma Town Field on Sunday.

He asked Priyanka Gandhi to come to Doomdooma and pluck tea leaves along with female tea garden labourers to realize how laborious was the job of plucking 'two leaves and a bud'. Attacking Congress for aligning with the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), he said that every vote cast in favour of Congress would go in favour of Badruddin Ajmal, who was interested in opening madrassa schools only instead of paying attention towards development of Assam.

Narrating various government schemes undertaken by the BJP government, he declared that the BJP government would waive all the micro-finance loans availed by youths and promised two lakh jobs to youths every year under 'Swayam' scheme, besides giving employment in one lakh government posts in one year within March, 2022. He also promised Scooty for girls and Bullet motorcycles for boys, besides giving Rs 100 as pocket money to poor students, in addition to facilities already availed by them in the form of free admission and free textbooks. Terming sitting Congress MLA Durga Bhumij as a 'venture MLA', he said that Bhumij could not do anything for the constituency in the last five years.

"Doomdooma, which was once very prosperous, will prosper again if a BJP candidate like Rupesh Goala is voted to power. Then BJP MP of Lakhimpur Parliamentary Constituency, Pradan Baruah and Rupesh Goala will be able to work together for the development of this resourceful constituency," said Sarma. He also said, "We have given a medical college to Tinsukia. For Doomdooma, I declare an engineering college for it."

In the meeting, many Congress workers and student leaders joined the BJP and significantly, Debajit Moran, a disgruntled BJP worker, who filed nomination as independent candidate, returned to BJP's fold again and appealed to people not to vote for the Congress. The rally was also addressed by MP Pradan Baruah and other leaders.
