
Biswanath weekly market incident

Biswanath Chariali: An urgent meeting of the Biswanath District Peace Committee was held on Tuesday at the conference hall of the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Biswanath to take stock of the aftermath of the beef selling incident in a local weekly market on Sunday which created much hue and cry in a section of print and social media.
Addressing the meeting, Pabitra Ram Khaund, Deputy Commissioner, commented that Biswanath Chariali had a resplendent past for being the home to mixed communities and people have been living here in peace and harmony since long. He said that any untoward incident in this respect would be handled with strong hand.
Rakesh Roshan, Superintendent of Police, Biswanath informed that police administration had adopted immediate measures to tackle the situation. He also said that it came to the notice of the administration that a section of people have been spreading instigating video and pictures through social media and called upon everyone to restrain from it. The representatives of local social organizations expressed their solidarity with the administration and appealed to take stern action against the culprits. The meeting was attended by veteran social workers Jiten Bhagawati, Bidyut Sharma, AASU Central leaders Duldul Borkataki and Prajnan Bhuyan and other representatives of Nagarik Santha, AASU, AAMSU, AJYCP, AAGSU, Jamiyat-Ulema-Hind etc.
