GUWAHATI: The superintendent of GMCH (Guwahati Medical College and Hospital) Dr. Abhijit Sarma informed most of the covid positive cases found this time is from those people who are aged between 21 to 30 years.

Dr. Abhijit Sarma provided detailed information regarding the COVID-19 situation in the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).

The doctor said that the adult age group is found to be most affected with the third covid wave as 19.72% of individuals from the category of 21-30 years of age are detected as COVID-19 positive after undergoing tests.

The second highest covid infected age category is found to be people between the age of 51 to 60 years as 16.70% of people from this age group were found infected with the virus.

And the least and third-highest covid virus-infected people fall under the age category between 31 to 40 years as 14.03% of individuals of this age category were found covid positive.

Dr. Sarma said then from 1st January to Tuesday 18 January a number of 563 people has been admitted to GMCH in view of covid symptoms and among those 451 individuals are fully vaccinated and 49 persons are found taking only the first dose.

The doctor further informed that at least 12 patients in the hospital are infected with the disease in the third covid wave.

He also said that most of the infected cases from the Guwahati city have been reported mainly from three locations and they are Chandmari, Basistha and Rajgarh.

The Superintendent of GMCH said that it is very likely that Assam will witness a total of 10,000 positive cases on a regular basis.

He requested the people across the state to prevent themselves from getting affected by the virus and maintain all the covid protocols so the spread of the third wave can stop.

Meanwhile, as per the report on Tuesday 18 January, the state reported a total of 8072 covid positive cases and this tally breaks all the previous records. The positivity rate stood at 12.62% on a daily basis.
