People decry slow progress of four-laning of NH-37 via Numaligarh to Jorhat

GOLAGHAT: Due to alleged negligence of PWD (Building), Dergaon subdivision and the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDCL), people are suffering due to slow progress of four-laning of NH-37 construction work passing through Dergaon town.

As per allegation, a section of officials of the PWD office did not pay interest in preparing official documents for the construction company concerned to speed up the construction work of four-laning of NH 37 via Numaligarh to Jorhat.

The people of Dergaon have expressed resentment over slow progress of four-laning work. They have demanded intervention of the State Government to compel the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDCL) to immediately expedite the four-laning work.

As per records, for four-laning of NH-37 which passes through Dergaon town from Dadhara to Sitalpathar, the NHIDCL was asked to submit details estimates vide letter No. NHIDCL/GM/DPR/VSPL/116/2019/034 dated 31/01/2020. In this regard, the Land Acquisition Department under the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Golaghat, vide Letter No. GRA-3/2014/Pt dated 5/05/5050 instructed the Revenue Circle, Dergaon, PWD (Building), Dergaon subdivision and the Forest Department to take initiative. But due to alleged negligence of the Assistant Engineer of PWD (Building), Dergaon subdivision, the proper estimates have not been completed. As a result, the people affected by four-laning of NH 37 have been deprived of compensation.

Besides, under the supervision of the Deputy Commissioner of Golaghat, Bibhash Chandra Modi, a meeting was held with officials concerned to provide compensation to the affected families in due time and he asked to the PWD officials to prepare details estimates under the provision of the Land Acquisition and Re-settlement Act, 2013. Thereafter, the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Land Acquisition department asked the PWD, Dergaon subdivision for details estimates against affected people by official letters dated 10/08/2020 and 8/10/2020. But the PWD Dergaon subdivision has not been able to submit the estimates as yet. The affected families by four-laning of NH 37 have demanded the government to take initiative for starting construction work and providing adequate compensation at an earliest.
