GOLAGHAT: It is strange but true that the people doing the cremation of dead people due to Covid-19 in Golaghat as well as routine cleaning work under Golaghat Municipality are deprived of their dues.

In this regard, an employee of the municipality said that the administration had been informed of this matter earlier but no step has been taken till date.

Following government instructions, there was also a direction to immediately provide Rs 5,000 to 10,000 to the people working in this sector. But the people working under Golaghat municipality are still being deprived of their dues. A source in the municipality said that on May 23 this year, funeral work of the mortal remains of persons who die of Covid was started, adding that till now approximately 60 persons were cremated by the workers special employed for this work. It is said that it takes Rs 6,000 to 7,000 rupees at a time to make arrangements for such funerals. It includes procurement of various materials used in the funeral.
