LAKHIMPUR: The conscious people, several organizations and institutions of Lakhimpur, including the district unit of All Assam Students' Union (AASU), have unanimously expressed resentment against the State Government and the district administration for neglecting noted cultural figure Jiban Borah while paying him last homage on Tuesday.
It is alleged that the State Government and the district administration had shown extreme dereliction with regard to paying homage to the prominent cultural figure, writer and cine director-cum-producer of the State who breathed his last on Monday night. On Tuesday, Lakhimpur district AASU organized a special programme at North Lakhimpur Government Boys' HS School to pay him last homage. Hundreds of people and organizations of the district paid him homage, showing their love, honour and reverence to the departed soul. But, no representative from the State Government and the district administration were present in the programme.
"Jiban Borah deserved the artist pension. But it was not given to him. His funeral should be performed with State honour. It was also not done by the State Government while an MLA from the native district has been shouldering the charge of Cultural Affairs Minister of the State. Despite all this, the State Government as well as the district administration could not even manage to send any representatives to pay the prominent figure last homage. It is unfortunate," said people and members of various organizations.
