BISWANATH CHARIALI: Along with the rest of the country, lockdown also began in Biswanath district on Tuesday night. Excluding the government notified institutions, all other shops, educational institutions, markets and offices remained closed amidst strict vigil of the administration and the police.

The streets also wore a deserted look. However, the police had to chase away some unscrupulous persons for violating the government instructions in some places. Earlier, the police made public announcements on Tuesday evening about the lockdown and asked people not to come out of their homes except in emergency cases.

Meanwhile, the administration sprayed disinfectants in different places of the district. The health department also made necessary arrangements to tackle the situation. A good number of isolated beds and sufficient stock of medicines were kept ready in different hospitals, including private nursing homes, in the district.
