MANGALDAI: "We have been living in a very cordial atmosphere with the bond of brotherhood among different ethnic and religious groups and the district of Darrang is well known for its traditional communal harmony. The unfortunate group clash that took place in 2008 and in 2012 has taught us a good lesson as it is only the common people who often fall victim of such unwanted situations. We have full faith on the district administration and the police and we are also duty bound to extend all cooperation and help to the administration in keping the society totally free from any unwanted situation which may create hatred and breach the mutual confidence in the society," said leading citizens belonging to the cross-section of society of Dalgaon, Kharupetia and Dhula area in Darrang district.

Village elders, leading citizens, village head men, representatives of political and non-political organizations and members of Village Defence Organization, while taking part in three separately organized interactive meetings at the police stations at Dalgaon, Kharupetia and Dhula, expressed their strong resolution and determination not to allow any anti-social elements to create unrest in the society. These three meetings were convened by the district police with view to create awareness among peace-loving citizens in view of the Thelamara incident.

Taking part in these interactive sessions, Deputy Inspector General of Central Western Range Brajenjit Singha appreciated the spirit of the peace-loving people of Darrang district and assured to take tough action on the anti-social elements. "The peace-loving people of Dalgaon, Kharupetia and Dhula area have always been a glaring example of communal harmony and bond of brotherhood and I earnestly appeal you to maintain your unique tradition," said DIGP, CWR Brajenjit Singha while taking part in the interactive sessions.

Superintendent of Police Amrit Bhuyan, Deputy Superintendent of Police (HQ) Mamani Hazarika and media person Bhargab Kumar Das also took part in these sessions and appealed to maintain peace and harmony at any cost.

Mangaldai legislator Guru Jyoti Das, while taking part in the interactive session at Dhula Police Station, appealed to all sections of the society not to rely on rumours and to extend cooperation to the police and the administration. Significantly, all the participants in these three interactive sessions demanded the administration and the police to take stern action on a section of social media users and web portals for airing objectionable topics to mislead the people.
