Pest-control training for farmers organized in Tamulpur district

GUWAHATI: A two-day Human Resource Development (HRD) programme was conducted by the Regional Central Integrated Pest Management Centre (RCIPMC), Guwahati on Monday and Tuesday. The programme was conducted at Niz Defeli village under Nagirijuli block of the Tamulpur district. A total of 53 participants attended the programme, stated a press release.

Ravi Laxmigudi, Plant Protection Officer (Entomology) and his team of RCIPMC, Guwahati, Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Directorate of Plant Protection, and Quarantine & Storage attended the programme.

The programme imparted training to the farmers on judicious use of chemical pesticides and encouraged use of bio-control agents like Trichodermaviride, Beauvariabassiana, Pseudomonas fluorescens, Trichogramma spp and naturally-produced botanicals (bio-pesticides like Neem and Karanj-based bio-pesticides) through Integrated Pest Management (IPM) techniques. During the training different IPM techniques from seed sowing to harvest of crop were discussed. The programme emphasized and demonstrated how carry out seed treatment with bio fungicide and chemical fungicide, safe use of chemical pesticide, Agro Eco System Analysis (AESA), which includes Identification of Pest and Defenders on paddy, mustard and vegetables and ITK technology for the rodent management.

The programme also demonstrated different types of traps like pheromone trap for lepidopteron insect pest, yellow sticky trap for sucking insect pest, light traps for flying insect. The different techniques of weed management were also covered in this programme. The programme concluded with the feedback from farmers and assurance given to them for future help in good agriculture practices.
