PATHSALA: Bajali police, on Monday, arrested the key accused in the petrol-bomb attack on the house of AGP (Assam Gana Parishad) leader and educationist Dr Ranjit Deka. The youth has been identified as 24-year-old Mintu Ali of Pathsala town in Bajali district.

Mentionably, Mintu reportedly lobbed petrol bombs at Deka's house at around 9 pm on August 7.

Deka had contested the last Assam Assembly elections on an AGP ticket from the Bhabanipur constituency. He runs the 'Anundoram Baruah Academy', a reputed private educational institute here.

During the incident, Deka's family members were present in the house. After around 30 minutes of the incident, Mintu also reportedly threatened Deka's wife over the mobile phone. The number is yet to be traced.

Bajali SP (Superintendent of Police), Dharmendra Das told The Sentinel, "His threat call gave us the clue to the location, where we traced him. A laptop and 13 mobile phone sets have been recovered from the house of the Mintu Ali. Further investigation is on."
