TINSUKIA: Pitched roads are still a distant dream in certain parts of rural Tinsukia district. The Phillobari-Pengeree Road is one such road which falls under two constituencies, namely Doomdooma and Margherita, and a major link road has been neglected by both the legislators despite demands from the public. The road is now in a deplorable state. Though the maintenance of the road lies with State PWD, for several years the department made no effort to repair the road. As such several potholes appeared in the 12-km long road.
While the major stretch of the road falls under Margherita constituency, only a small portion lies under Doomdooma constituency. According to a source, necessary fund has already been released but due to the alleged apathetic attitude of the Margherita MLA, some problems have cropped up due to which road construction is being stalled even as the road from Doomdooma to Phillobari was completed sometime back.
The area is not only a backward place but also militancy-prone. Thus, poor road condition is a major hindrance for counter-insurgency operations, said a source.
