HAILAKANDI: Piped water supply connections are being extended to newer areas in the district in the past four and a half years by the Public Health Engineering department.

Two mega multi village piped water supply schemes have been commissioned on January 5 this year. The Greater Sheralipur and Greater Panchgram-Kalinagar multi village piped water supply schemes have benefitted 34,696 souls. Two other multi village piped water supply schemes viz., the Greater Lala and Greater Bowerghat are likely to be commissioned in February and March, respectively. These two piped water schemes are going to benefit 44,314 souls.

Under the flagship programme of Jal Jeevan Mission, 293 schemes have been sanctioned which will provide safe drinking water to 1,46,514 households across the district. Moreover, under the Multi-sectoral Development Programme (MsDP), 415 numbers of tara pumps have been installed and 145 ring wells constructed during 2020-21. The department has constructed 16,176 individual household latrines under the 'No One Left Behind' (NOLB) of Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen).
