NAGAON: Nagaon Forest Division, in association with Kathiatoli range, constructed an approach and a concrete culvert to Kandali proposed reserve forest. Besides, the division concerned also completed a massive plantation drive in around 250 bighas of land under corporate social responsibility scheme 2021-22 sponsored by Numaligarh Refinery Pvt Ltd with a view to sustain the greenness of the barren hills of Kandali proposed reserve forest. As a part of this ongoing project, the department concerned organized a public meeting on Wednesday at the project spot near Tapatjuri where over 18 wild jumbos were electrocuted under mysterious circumstances last year.

Barhampur MLA Jitu Goswami, Divisional Forest Officer, Nagaon Bhaskar Deka and other forest officials of the division graced the occasion and also planted the saplings of various local trees containing fruits. Participating in the plantation drive, MLA Goswami said that the proposed reserve forest was an elephant habitat linked with a direct route to Kaziranga National park. Besides, it keeps the environment of the district in balance. Hence, a sustainable greenery of the forest hills at Kandali PRF is highly required, Goswami said, adding that Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will see the project being carried out after May 10 as the project was implemented under special persuasion of Sarma.
