Platinum jubilee of historic Nowgong College begins

NAGAON: The closing ceremony of the platinum jubilee of the historic Nowgong College (autonomous) began with a two-day long programme here at the college premises from Friday.
The programme was initiated with unfurling the flag by Rupak Sarma, the local MLA and the president of the platinum jubilee celebration committee, following which a special programme titled as 'Guru Shrishya Samaroh' was held. The programme was chaired by Sachindra Kr Kakoti, former student of the college and currently working as Deputy Director, IIT Guwahati.
Dr Sarat Borkatoki, principal of the college, delivered the welcome address while Prof Dr Naba Prashad Nath anchored the programme. Alumnus and the noted Assamese litterateur-cum-journalist - Manoj Kumar Goswami whose name has been declared for the Sahitya AkademiAward for the current year, was also present as a special invitee in the programme.
Moreover, an alumni meet was also organized at the college auditorium during the day. Former student as well as the former professor and the current principal of Biswanath College, Dr Chinta Moni Sarma chaired the first session of the meet while the second session of the programme was chaired by alumnus Pulin Chandra Bora.
The teachers' unit of the college staged the play Piyali Phukon at the college auditorium in the evening. The play was inaugurated by noted Assamese film actor and alumnus Dinesh Das. A rural science exhibition fair was also organized on occasion of the platinum jubilee celebration at Nagaon Ujaragaon based Sankardev Higher Secondary School.
The rural science exhibition fair was ceremonially inaugurated by Sarat Chandra Kakati, science guru of Dibrugarh University. The theme of the science exhibition fair was'Technology generation using innovation'. Dr Mridul Kr Nath, Inspector of Schools, Nagaon was present as the chief guest in the inaugural session of the science exhibition. Over 15 local educational institutes from Pathori as well as Ujaragaon areas, participated in the science exhibition organized by Nowgong College.
Meanwhile, in the evening, the programme of the first day was concluded with a cultural extravaganza at the open stage erected temporarily at the college campus. The cultural programme was inaugurated jointly by noted Assamese singers Queen Das and Krishna Moni Nath, a release added.
