JORHAT: Jorhat and Majuli districts have suspended all kinds of water transport services, both passenger and goods, between Neematighat to Majuli since Saturday, said administrative official sources.

According to the official order issued by both the district administrations, it was stated that to reduce the risk of the outbreak of COVID-19, plying of ferries from Neematighat to Majuli had been suspended, except emergency services, until further order. In case of medical emergency, patients or attendants can contact the administration for further movement outside the district. The order also said that any violation in this regard will be prosecuted under the District Disaster Management Act-2005, Epidemic Disaster Act-1887 and other relevant orders and rules under Section 188 of IPC.
