PM Modi Inaugurates 108th Indian Science Congress
PM launched the event through video conferencing and the theme this year is Science And Technology For Sustainable Development With Women Empowerment.

NEW DELHI : PM Narendra Modi on the 3rd of January launched the 108th Indian Science Congress (ISC) through video conferencing. The ISC 2023 is being conducted in Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University in Maharashtra.
It is a five day event and the theme is Science And Technology For Sustainable Development With Women Empowerment.
The inaugural session has been addressed by Bhagat Singh Koshyari, the Governor and Chancellor of Maharashtra, Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari, Jitendra Singh, the Union Minister of state in Science and Technology, Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde and Devendra Fadnavis, the Deputy CM of Maharashtra.
PM Narendra Modi emphasised on the fact that the actual outcome of science will only flourish when it will be taken to the land from the lab. He highlighted the importance and influence of science at the grassroots level, and not just globally.
He appealed to every individual, who are in the field of science, to bring out their research and efforts in order to change real lives. The PM stated that, in the next 25 years science will play a crucial role in taking India to new heights.
The prime goal of the scientific community should be to fulfill the needs of the general public, it should make India 'Atmanirbhar', added the PM.
Furthermore, Modi mentioned that, examining the development in the field of science in past years, India can be considered as one of the top countries in the world.
It is worth noting that, India was in the 81st position in Global Innovation Index among 130 countries in the year 2015. However, the position has reached to 40th in 2022. The 108th Indian Science Congress has taken place after a gap of two years due to COVID-19.
This year's theme itself implies that, the goal this year is to discuss on ways as to how to increase the ratio of women in teaching, research, industry, science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
