DIBRUGARH: Prime Minister Narendra Modi began his Wednesday morning in Assam with an unhurried visit to the Monohari Tea Estate in Dibrugarh — stepping into the tea garden to meet workers, pluck leaves, and listen to their stories before heading out to campaign rallies.
The visit, which lasted nearly half an hour, saw Modi interact with 19 women workers, personally pluck fresh tea leaves into a traditional basket, and watch a Jhumur dance performance put on by the workers in his honour.

The Prime Minister's conversation with the women covered their daily lives — touching on issues of education, healthcare, and wages. By most accounts, the interaction was relaxed and personal in tone.
"We never imagined that the Prime Minister of India would come to our garden and interact with us. It is a lifetime experience for us, and we are very happy," said one of the workers present.
Modi had arrived at the Monohari Resort the previous evening and stayed overnight, departing from there for the tea garden early in the morning.
The Prime Minister took to X to share his experience with followers, posting a series of reflections on the visit.
"The plucking of tea leaves was followed by the women talking about their culture and, of course, a selfie!" he wrote.
He also said that tea garden families deserved recognition for their contribution to the state. "We are very proud of the efforts of each and every tea garden family. Their hard work and perseverance have enhanced Assam's pride," he added.
In another post, Modi called tea "the soul of Assam," describing the morning as "a very memorable experience."
Rajen Lohia, the owner of Monohari Tea Estate, spoke to The Sentinel about the experience of hosting the Prime Minister.
"PM Narendra Modi arrived at around 8:45 am, interacted with the women workers, and plucked tea leaves. For half an hour, he spoke with them and tried to learn about their lives," Lohia said. "He was humble and spoke kindly with the workers."
"PM Modi came to Monohari Resort yesterday and stayed overnight. We are very happy and cannot express our feelings," he added.
After concluding his time at the tea garden, Modi departed for Mohanbari Airport, from where he flew to address election rallies at Gogamukh and Behali — continuing his packed campaign schedule across Assam ahead of the April 9 polls.
