PM Modi Will Inaugurate AIIMS, Guwahati on April 14: Assam CM

GUWAHATI: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday informed that the construction of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Guwahati’s Changsari area is 90 per cent complete and that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be officially inaugurating the hospital on April 14.

The chief minister visited the AIIMS site along with state health minister Keshab Mahanta on Thursday morning and took stock of the ongoing construction of the prestigious institution, which has the potential to change the medical services scenario in the state and the NE region.

“The construction of the hospital is at full pace and 18 departments are now almost functional, including the Out Patient Department (OPD),” CM Sarma told reporters.

“Out of the 750 beds, a total of 150 beds have been installed in the hospital so far,” he added.

The Assam chief minister had announced in December last year that the AIIMS, Guwahati will be officially inaugurated this year, 2023, and it looks like it will be a reality soon.

During his attendance at the Namghor Samaroh in North Guwahati, he announced a slew of upcoming projects to be inaugurated in North Guwahati, apart from the AIIMS. The CM spoke about ten new schools to be constructed in Jalukbari constituency, his own constituency from which he has won repeatedly.

The chief minister said, “The AIIMS, Guwahati will be officially inaugurated in 2023. Ten new high schools will be newly constructed in the Jalukbari constituency. Model schools will also be constructed at Changsari and Rangmahal.”

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma took to Twitter to say, “It's our great privilege that Adarniya PM Shri @narendramodi ji will soon inaugurate AIIMS Changsari, which will give a huge boost to healthcare in North East. Reviewed status of its various infrastructure facilities including OPD, auditorium, waste disposal & connecting roads”

The video accompanying the tweet shows CM Sarma inspecting the inside and outside the buildings. He also interacted with the officials and the construction people, providing his inputs on certain aspects of the institution.
