Police arrested fake doctor in Dibrugarh

DIBRUGARH: Dibrugarh police arrested a fake doctor from Chalkhowa area in Dibrugarh on Thursday. The fake doctor has been identified as Safikul Haque. According to locals, two months ago, he had opened a chamber in Chalkhowa and was prescribing medicines to patients who went to him for treatment. The fake doctor was arrested on the basis of complaints filed by the village headman Rubal Ali and another four persons of Chalkhowa.

"Few days ago, I went to him after suffering from weakness. He told me that my liver and kidney can be damaged anytime. He prescribed me some medicines but after taking the medicines my problem has not solved. I went to another doctor and he told me that my haemoglobin level was low and he prescribed me iron tablets. I doubted the previous doctor for his wrong diagnosis. After some days, we came to know that he was a fake doctor," said a victim. The fake doctor has been running his chamber and prescribing medicines to people.

"The fake doctor has been running a racket in our village for last several months. Six months ago, he had done a wrong treatment on a pregnant woman and from then on we started gathering information about him. We are happy that finally he has been arrested," said a local resident of Chalkhowa.

Talking to The Sentinel, Dibrugarh Additional Superintendent of Police (HQ) Bitul Chetia said, "We have arrested a fake doctor from Chalkhowa on the basis of complaints filed by numerous people of Chalkhowa. During investigation, we found that he didn't have any degree to become a doctor. We have seized some fake documents from his residence." A case no 340/22 u/s 419/ 468/471 was registered at Dibrugarh police station.
