Police Officer From Assam's Sivasagar Closed To Reserve For Misbehaving

GUWAHATI: The police officer in charge (IC) at the Cherekapar Police Outpost of Sivasagar, Harvdev Singh has been closed to police reserve as action over his alleged misbehavior with complainants including a woman.

Singh faced action after a police complaint registered by one identified as Rajib Gogoi who stated that the police officer had allegedly abused and assaulted complainants.

The complainant filed an FIR against IC of Cherekapar Police Outpost stating that Singh had not just misbehaved but also gave death threats to a woman and others on visiting the police station.

The police in a drunken state used filthy words and outraged the modesty of a woman as stated in the FIR copy.

As per reports on last Saturday 26 March, Gogoi accompanied by locals visited the Cherekapar Police Outpost at around 11:00 pm at night to hand over two suspected thieves namely Mohibul Ali and Bitu Robidas.

These two youths were caught by the local people from a nearby forest area on the same day and were taken to the police station in relation to a suspected robbery case.

According to the FIR copy against the officer in charge, the complaint claimed that when the locals reached the police station, Hardev Singh allegedly abused all of them.

Moreover, he used inappropriate words, assaulted them brutally using some hard materials and left them injured. Singh also gave death threats by saying that he will kill them with his service pistol.

As per the complaint, the alleged police officer has humiliated a woman inside the premises of the Cherekapar Police Outpost.

The complainant in the FIR also mentioned about the injured persons identified as Pital Gogoi, Rahul Gogoi, Basu Robidas, Sukhdev Robidas and Renu Robidas among others.

All the people sustaining injuries are currently treated with medical aid in a local hospital as informed by the complainant.
