NAGAON: Following the mysterious death of a youth, a large number of people including women and children from a particular community, went on a rampage this an afternoon here at Nagaon Batadroba, the birthplace of the great vaishnavite Guru Mahapurush Srimanta Shankardev, and destroyed completely Batadroba PS along with police vehicles, other government properties, motorcycles, arms and ammunition by "setting it on fire. Besides, the mob also leapt on the police personnel as well as officials of the PS concerned, sources added.

The mob was so ferocious that the on-duty police and other officials of the PS became completely helpless and they were brought out one by one on camera from the police station to its campus and were beaten up with stones, helmets and others by "the mob, sources said further.

"Meanwhile being informed, the Superintendent of Police Leena Doley and other senior police officials along with sufficient security forces from Nagaon rushed to the spot and tried to bring the situation under control."Police immediately arrested three persons in this regard and further investigation into the entire episode is on, sources said, adding that more people will be arrested in connection with the attack of the mob by police tonight itself.

While speaking to this correspondent here the new Superintendent of Police Leena Doley claimed that the police of the PS received information about an intoxicated man laying on the roadside and police rescued the man identified as Safikul Islam from the road. "Immediately, police brought him to a local hospital and carried out the medical tests. Later, on the advice of the medical officer, he was brought back to the PS and also called his family members to the PS. But no one from his family visited the PS last night." Rather, his wife arrived at the PS early this morning and provided food that she brought from home to him, she said, adding that when he took food, he felt uneasy and police of the PS immediately admitted him to the local hospital.

''But the on-duty doctor of the hospital immediately referred him to Nagaon BP Civil Hospital where he was declared as brought dead just after arrival, she added.

Smelling a pre-planned attack on the police station, SP Doley said during the preliminary investigation it was found that the attackers also brought kerosene oil, stones and others along with them when they entered the campus of the PS and will initiate strict action against those who involved in the gruesome attack.

We are examining all the videos and other clips and also trying to identify the attackers, she said adding that more people will be picked up by the next morning.
