BOKAKHAT: A road accident occurred on Friday afternoon on National Highway 37 at Tamulipathar under the jurisdiction of Kamargaon Police Station. Reportedly, a Maruti Swift vehicle bearing registration number AS01DL5157, coming at a high speed from the Jorhat direction, hit a cyclist and fled the scene.
Local residents immediately informed Kamargaon Police about the accident, and instructions were given to stop the vehicle. However, despite the orders, the vehicle continued towards Bokakhat. Later, Bokakhat Police intercepted and seized the vehicle and handed it over to Kamargaon Police.
The victim of the accident, 72-year-old Suren Bora of Goriya Borpathar, was critically injured and rushed to the hospital by locals using the 108 ambulance service. A significant revelation that shocked the Kamargaon Police was that inside the vehicle were three individuals dressed in police uniforms. It was later confirmed that the car was carrying three Assam Police trainee officers from the Lachit Borphukan Police Academy in Dergaon, undergoing training as Assistant Sub-Inspectors (ASIs).
The occupants of the vehicle involved in the accident were identified as Manik Kumar Barman, Utpal Kumar Bora, and the driver Jibanta Kewat. All are Assistant Sub-Inspector trainees of Assam Police.
Meanwhile, Kamargaon Police seized the vehicle involved in the accident and are continuing their interrogation of the ASI trainees.
