Political substitute must be formed under leadership of Congress: AICC general secretary Harish Rawat

JOYSAGAR, Sept 24: “Most of the political parties of the country who believe in honesty and in real democracy are now looking for an alternative force in order to overthrow the Hitler rule of the BJP and Narendra Modi. A political substitute has to be formed under the leadership of the Congress and many other parties are waiting for a change,” said All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary and Assam in-charge, Harish Rawat while addressing a party meeting held in the Charaideo Public Hall.

The ‘Jana-Sajagta’ meeting, which was organized by the Charaideo District Congress (I) Committee, was hosted by senior Congress leader and former Education Minister Sarat Borkotoky on Monday. APCC president and MP Ripun Bora also spoke in the meeting and accused the BJP government of taking anti-people decision. He alleged that under the BJP government’s rule, there was no democracy in the country and fundamental rights like the right to freedom of expression were under threat.

Leader of the Opposition and Nazira MLA Debobrat Saikia also addressed the party workers and local people. He demanded an answer from the BJP for the Rafale deal and bank loan scams. Hundreds of Congress workers and block-level leaders participated in the meeting. Rawat will also visit other districts of Upper Assam and hold ‘Jana-Sajagta’ meetings in various places before the 2019 general elections.
