Poll violence in Dhemaji under Lakhimpur HPC with Congress candidate attacked

LAKHIMPUR: At a time when the election scenario has heated up gradually in the five HPCs of Assam ahead of the first phase poll on April 11, poll-related violence occurred in Dhemaji district under Lakhimpur HPC on Friday. As per report, Anil Borgohain, the Indian National Congress MP candidate of Lakhimpur HPC was attacked by unidentified miscreants in Friday evening at Silasuti under Chilapathar Police Station in Dhemaji district.

At that time when the attack took place, Anil Borgohain was on the way to Dhemaji district headquarters after campaigning at various places under Jonai LAC. Sources said that the candidate sustained injuries in the attack and his vehicle was also damaged. The Congress supporters blocked the NH-15 immediately after the incident demanding the arrest of the miscreants involved in the incident.
