Polling conducted peacefully in Lakhimpur district

LAKHIMPUR: The polling for the first phase of Assam Legislative Assembly Election - 2021 in four Legislative Assembly Constituencies (LACs) of Lakhimpur district concluded peacefully on Saturday. Notably, the first phase of Assembly Election was conducted in a total of 47 LACs under 12 districts of Upper, North and Middle Assam, including the No. 109 Bihpuriya LAC, No. 110 Naoboicha LAC, No.111 Lakhimpur LAC and No. 112 Dhakuakhana LAC of Lakhimpur district on the same day.

On the day, no untoward incident was reported from any LAC of the district. In this regard, Khageswar Pegu, the Deputy Commissioner of Lakhimpur, informed The Sentinel that there were no issues in the district regarding the deterioration of law and order during the polling.

"The overall polling situation was peaceful across the district. The district machinery had left no stone unturned in order to conduct the election in a free and fair manner, due to which the electors were seen coming out to cast their franchise enthusiastically. I extend my thanks to the electors of the district along with all those who are involved in conducting the polling process," the DC added.

However, polling was delayed in a few polling stations of the district due to technical defect in the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). Later, the non-functioning EVMs were replaced and then polling was held in those polling stations smoothly. Notably, a total of 34 Zonal Officers, 117 Sector officers, 1,269 Presiding Officers and 2,907 polling officers conducted the polling processes in the four LACs of the district. In every polling station, the polling was conducted by adhering to COVID-19 protocol strictly.
