SIVASAGAR: Pollution Control Board (PCB) inspected the Dikhow River after publication of various news regarding colour change of the river water in Sivasagar. They also collected samples of water from various locations.

"We have collected samples from the Dikhow River at Dikhow Bridge ghat and Sepon-Sunpura stretch for analysis. Samples have also been sent to Guwahati for testing of toxicity, which will be available within a week. On the other hand, samples which were tested by PCB showed that dissolved oxygen (DO) level of the water was at 5.7, which is normal for the survival of aquatic life," said a PCB official of Sivasagar.

The officials also stated that the samples which they had collected from Sepon-Sunpura stretch, were not green. Stating that the water of Dikhow River had changed earlier also, the PCB official said that this phenomenon might have occurred due to blue-green algae bloom, which thrives during this season. He also suspected the death of fish as the consequences of the blue-green algae bloom.

Dikhow River suddenly changed its color, first blue then dark green and dead fish were also spotted floating on the surface of the river water in Sivasagar recently.
