Poshan Maah programmes: SAM Adoption initiative inaugurated in Darrang district

MANGALDAI: In line with Poshan Maah celebration, Deputy Commissioner of Darrang, Pranab Kumar Sarma on Wednesday visited a Nutritional Rehabilitation Centre (NRC) at Arimari village under Dalgaon LAC and handed over 'Nutritional Discharge Kit' to two Severely Acute Malnourished (SAM) recovered children and requested the parents to oversee their aftercare.

The Deputy Commissioner also inaugurated a Poshan Vatika at Arimari Part II AWC No 378 under Dalgaon Sialmari ICDS project. During Poshan Maah, 2022 a total of 60 Poshan Vatikas have been developed at various AWCs under Darrang. While addressing a gathering in the closing ceremony- cum-awareness meeting attended by more than 300 village women, the Deputy Commissioner emphasized elevating the literacy rate amongst women, reduction of school drop outs, reduction in anaemia, proper nutrition for children etc. He also urged the PRI members and participants to help the administration in eliminating the social evil of child marriage.

Moreover, a new initiative of Darrang district i.e. SAM Adoption was officially inaugurated by handing over a 'Nutritional Kit' to one SAM child. In this initiative, one SAM child will be adopted under which nutritional kits will be given monthly for a period of three months. The meeting was also attended by the DSWO Darrang , CDPOs, DCO and PRI members.
